Mysuru City Police have introduced a cutting-edge method to track and identify criminals more efficiently, thanks to the integration of smart fingerprint detection and the Mobile Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (MCCTNS) app. The initiative aims to enhance public safety, particularly during the bustling Dasara Festival, which attracts numerous visitors to the city.
The MCCTNS app, paired with fingerprint scanners, allows officers to scan a suspect’s finger and instantly verify their criminal history by accessing the state’s police database. The database holds the fingerprints of individuals arrested across various police stations in the state, enabling officers to cross-reference and identify potential offenders on the spot.
With 51 fingerprint scanner devices distributed across Mysuru’s police stations, the app has been installed on the mobile phones of key officers such as Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors (SI), Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI), and Head Constables. These officers are provided with secure user IDs and passwords, enabling them to access criminal records in real-time. This seamless process significantly reduces the time needed for manual checks, helping officers make faster decisions during investigations.
DCP MS Geetha shared her thoughts on the technology, noting that it used to take hours to bring suspects in for questioning, wasting valuable police time. However, with the MCCTNS app, officers can now instantly determine whether a person has a criminal record or not, making their work more efficient and allowing them to focus on critical issues.
The app has proven to be especially crucial in ensuring safety during the Dasara Festival, where large crowds gather at high-traffic areas such as the Chamundi Hills, the Palace, bus stands, and railway stations. With this technology in place, officers can swiftly identify thieves, burglars, and other suspects, enabling them to act promptly and deter criminal activity.
The Mysuru Police’s proactive approach, which includes the deployment of more devices during the festive season, is a testament to the growing role of technology in modern policing. By streamlining suspect identification and investigation processes, the MCCTNS app is helping to ensure that Mysuru remains a safe and secure city for both residents and tourists alike.
