MCCTNS App: Karnataka Statewide Implementation

The Mobile CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems) App is a cutting-edge platform that empowers law enforcement agencies with seamless access to critical crime data on the go. Designed to enhance efficiency, the app provides real-time updates, enables quick verification of criminal records, and facilitates streamlined case management from mobile devices. By bringing the power of CCTNS to the fingertips of police personnel, the Mobile CCTNS App ensures faster decision-making, improved coordination, and more effective crime prevention efforts.

In the evolving journey of modern law enforcement, the MCCTNS (Mobile – Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems) app stands as a beacon of progress. Introduced in 2020 under the leadership of the then Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, this groundbreaking application empowers the Karnataka Police force with cutting-edge technology to enhance efficiency, streamline operations, and deliver justice with unparalleled precision. With its state-wide adoption, the MCCTNS app has transformed the way police officers approach daily policing tasks.

A Legacy of Smart Policing

The story of MCCTNS begins with a dream of smarter, more effective policing—a dream that first took shape in Gadag District under the banner of the Police One initiative. Launched on October 4, 2017, by Inspector General of Police (Northern Range) Ramachandra Rao and conceptualized by Superintendent of Police Santosh Babu, Police One marked the genesis of technology-driven policing in Karnataka.

Designed and developed by Capulus Technologies, Police One introduced mobile and web applications tailored for police officers, blending modern-day crime-fighting needs with the promise of efficiency.

Key innovations of the Police One initiative included:

  • Crime Scene Mapping: Officers could report incidents directly from the crime scene, geo-locating the location for centralized analysis.
  • Comprehensive Crime Database: Searchable information on criminals, crime reports, and FIRs provided officers with instant access to essential data.
  • Resource Library: A repository of legal materials, police manuals, and Supreme Court judgments empowered officers with knowledge at their fingertips.

Building on its success, the app was launched in Davangere District just three days later, on October 7, 2017, extending its impact and paving the way for a larger, state-wide vision.

MCCTNS: The Next Chapter of Transformation

From these humble yet profound beginnings, the MCCTNS app emerged as a powerful tool for modern law enforcement. Officially launched in 2020, this mobile application became an indispensable asset for Karnataka Police officers. Designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday operations, MCCTNS elevates policing through its rich feature set:

  • Fingerprint Identification: Integrated with the Smart Fingerprint Identification System, officers can use portable fingerprint scanners or their phones to check if a person has a criminal history. Results, including a complete criminal profile, are instantly available on the app. This feature is successfully operational since 2021.
  • CCTV GIS: Locating nearby CCTV cameras through a mobile interface to access critical surveillance footage.
  • Facial Recognition (FR): Advanced AI-powered criminal identification through facial recognition technology.
  • AI Chat Assistant: Powered by GPT-based LLM, this virtual assistant enhances officers’ ability to manage cases efficiently.

A Testament to Vision and Progress

The MCCTNS app is a reflection of Karnataka’s commitment to excellence in law enforcement. Born from the humble yet visionary Police One initiative in Gadag and Davangere, it has grown into a state-wide phenomenon that continues to empower officers across Karnataka.

With its innovative features, seamless integration, and focus on actionable intelligence, the MCCTNS app is a shining example of how technology can transform policing—making it smarter, more responsive, and deeply connected to the needs of the people.

As we look to the future, the MCCTNS app stands as a testament to what is possible when dedication meets innovation—a powerful symbol of Karnataka’s journey toward safer, stronger communities.
